How to Reclaim Ownership of a Hijacked or Orphaned Facebook Page

Overview

In 2014, Facebook launched “Facebook Business Manager”, which rebranded in 2022 as “Meta Business Suite”. This platform was created to provide allow business owners more flexibility and control over their Facebook and Instagram presence.

While this does have some advantages, the rollout and subsequent re-branding have caused a whirlwind of confusion about Business Suite Accounts -vs- Facebook Business Pages and page “Ownership” -vs- page “Administration”.

So without adding to that confusion by attempting to explain it, we want to help you regain full ownership of your business pages and related properties to help prevent problems in the future and to allow us the access we need to effectively manage your pages for you.

Steps to Reclaim Ownership of Your Facebook / Meta Properties

Assuming you do not have access to the Meta Business Manager account that now owns your business page(s), here are the steps to obtain full ownership:

Before You Get Started

First and foremost, all of your Facebook properties, including Meta Business Suite, Facebook Pages, Facebook Ads Manager Accounts, etc. need to be owned by a real personal Facebook profile. ⚠️ NOTE: Creating a fake Facebook Profile to manage these properties will put you at risk of losing control of them again in the future, or worse yet, having them deleted altogether.

What You Will Need

Meta / Facebook will require a copy of your ID, a signed statement, and at least one of these documents to verify your identity and prove that you are the owner or a high-level executive representing the business or entity associated with the Facebook pages you need access to. See the Full List Below

STEP 1

Gather Verification Documents that Facebook will ask for to verify your identity and your relationship to the business.

STEP 2

Use this template to compose a statement as described below

STEP 3

Print and sign the statement.

STEP 4

Scan the Statement to PDF using the Free Adobe Scan App (or similar app)

Note: The signed document must be provided in PDF format for Facebook to accept it.

STEP 5

Through your personal Facebook account, contact Facebook to submit the files mentioned above, along with a brief explanation describing the situation and requesting ownership of your Facebook pages, and a Meta Business Suite account.

Verification of Ownership Documents

Facebook typically requests the following information to verify your identity and your relationship with the business:

  1. A copy of a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a current driver’s license or a passport, of the individual signing the statement.
    You can scan your ID using the Free Adobe Scan App (or similar app).
  2. Proper Business documents must also be provided to confirm the requester’s connection to the Business. See the List of Documents that Facebook will accept.
  3. A Signed Statement in PDF file format from a person with sufficient knowledge and authority over this matter that includes all of the following:
    1. The Facebook email address and profile URL associated with the Facebook account that you wish to have added as the new admin
    2. A description of requestor relationship to the Business (and authority to request access to the Business, as applicable);
    3. An explanation of your request, and whether there has been a termination of the employment and/or business relationship with the named person(s)/Business, as applicable;
    4. The past three invoices/billing statements on the ad account(s) that the Business owns AND the last 4 digits of the credit card(s) on the account(s) – If you have never run ads on this page, you can explain that in your letter.
